Planning at the sculpture gallery

Ryan and Hazel’s big day

In October 2018, I had the honour and pleasure of being the wedding planner for Ryan and Hazel who married at the majestic Sculpture Gallery in Woburn Abbey. The Abbey has been the home of the Earls and Dukes of Bedford, one of England’s most powerful families, since the 1620s. It is currently the home of the 15th Duke and Duchess of Bedford and their children. With 28 acres of award winning Humphry Repton inspired gardens, all set in 300 acres of deer park, it really is one of the most picturesque wedding venues.

I first met Hazel at a wedding fair in April at Courteen Hall. She was looking at the possibility of having their wedding at the venue as although she had fallen completely in love with The Sculpture Gallery, the only date they had available was Sunday 7th October. Although marrying on a Sunday was not a problem, Hazel and her family are religious and were concerned that her Pastor would be in church and unable to marry her and Ryan. We arranged a consultation for the first week of May. I met with Hazel and we talked through all of her plans and ideas. Hazel had a clear vision for their special day and although we struck up an amazing friendship, they both agreed that they couldn’t quite stretch their budget with only a few months to go.

With 8 weeks and one day to go, I got a surprise email from Hazel asking if I could provide her with my Final Countdown service. With 8 weeks to go it can become quite stressful as you try to pull everything together and ensure no detail is missed and with Ryan away serving in the American forces, Hazel just needed someone to relieve the stress of organising their big day.

Although in the time from May to August, the happy couple had a lot of plans in place there was still some key suppliers needed, I jumped straight in. Venue styling, transport, stationery, tableware and the all important cake was soon arranged. Wedding planners have a wide range of trusted suppliers who they work with and turn too. Having also worked at The Sculpture Gallery before, I knew the day would run smoothly due to Ian and his amazing team.

As you can see from the beautiful photo’s and the big smiles on the couple’s faces, the day was a huge success. Not only was this my first and highly successful African wedding planned, I have made new contacts with the suppliers Hazel had already booked and also two friends for life in the beautiful Mr & Mrs Midgett.
